TIDA recently decided that every
interested party should be made aware of the Northern Inuits' position with
the Kennel Club with regard to recognition and this information should not
be restricted to our members only.
In order to put the record straight, as various rumours are circulating with
regard to which club will get recognition first, we are publishing here a
letter sent to BOTH clubs. This letter, in effect, has told us to go away
and come back in 5 years time and at that time to put in a unified/joint
application.
TIDA is using this time to establish a breeding programme in an attempt to
breed out as many of the health problems that are becoming apparent in this
breed as possible. By taking our time and great care over this we envisage
at the end of approximately 5 - 10 years having a strong and viable breed
with a healthy future.
We are encouraging all our breeders to have breeding dogs and bitches hip
scored and DNA tested, which will undoubtedly help with the application for
breed recognition. DNA testing will also prove the pedigrees of each dog,
thus avoiding the discrepancies, confusion and contradictions encountered
during the past 15 - 20 years.
We understand from the KC that the Northern Inuit mean hip score will be
published in January 2008 and that this score is 17
